Hi, I’m Irene, the owner and vegan cake designer behind Veg on Board.
I’ve always loved being creative. Drawing, sewing, baking, cooking - anything hands-on where I could be artistic and create something from scratch.
I also care deeply about animals and I know we can enjoy beautiful, delicious food without causing them harm.
Veg on Board actually started with vegan charcuterie boards and catering. But for years I’ve also loved baking and cake decorating -creating celebration and sculpted cakes for family and friends. I loved the piping, sculpting cakes into a piece of edible art, and making all the little details. Over time that became my focus.
Today, Veg on Board is a boutique vegan cake studio based on Long Island, NY. I create custom cakes and desserts for weddings and celebrations of all kinds, for anyone who’s vegan, has dietary allergies, or just loves good cake. Many of my customers are not vegan, and I always appreciate someone that just enjoys delicious desserts.
It’s an honor to play a small role in life’s most meaningful celebrations - from weddings and bridal showers to birthdays and growing families. Food is my artistic medium, and every cake is made with care, love and always vegan.
Fun Facts About Me
I’m not a sweets person- Don’t get me wrong, I love a good piece of cake, but it’s something I have on a very rare occasion. I’m a salty/ savory gal- give me all the salty popcorn any day.
Art has always been my passion. I've loved drawing and creating for as long as I can remember. Long before Veg on Board existed, I was making custom birthday cakes for my kids, family and friends. Every new design- from a baby cake and panda to Super Mario, a computer and a 3D dog cake, helped me learn new techniques and made me fall in love with cake artistry. When I went vegan, it was so exciting for me to use these same techniques with vegan mediums
I’m a homebody and happiest spending time with my two kids, my husband and Mouse our Siamese cat.
I’ve always loved animals and they’re a huge part of why Veg on Board exists.
I can watch my favorite movies and shows over and over and yes, I’ve been known to speak in movie lines. I think I’ve watched Game of Thrones over 100 times.
My music taste is all over the place- Salsa and Rock are my favorites, but my playlists jump from Heavy Metal to Pop, Disco, Ballads and old Puerto Rican folk songs.
I love history and traveling. Whenever we take a trip, I’m usually the one planning visits to museums, historical sites and hidden gems with a story behind them.
