Black Vegan & Gluten Free Wedding Cake at Oheka Castle

Oheka Castle is definitely one of those iconic venues on Long Island. Years before I created a wedding cake for a celebration there, I visited the estate with my family while I was homeschooling my kids. We spent the day walking through the castle, learning about its history, and exploring the grounds.

I’ve always loved history and visiting places, learning the details and imagining moments that happened there over the years. At that time, I was there as a mom on a homeschool trip. I never would have guessed that years later, one of my own cakes would make its way back through those same doors as part of someone’s wedding day. A pretty unexpected full circle moment.

For this wedding, the couple already had a traditional wedding cake planned through the venue, but one of the brides needed something that was just as special while also being vegan and gluten free.

The goal was to design something that matched the style of their day. The wedding colors included black, white, silver and disco ball details throughout the reception. So instead of creating another classic white cake, I mentioned doing a black cake to contrast the other white cake nicely. I know it’s bold and a bit dramatic, but she loved the idea.

I made a black vintage heart cake with piping, pearl details, black edible glitter, and disco balls! It was a little fun twist, but elegant, and fit perfectly with their celebration.

One of my favorite parts of creating vegan wedding cakes is making sure everyone is included in these special moments. It should be beautiful and most importantly delicious!

After the wedding, the bride shared:

“The cake was amazing! I havent had cake filling like that in years. Thank you again for making such an amazing cake that I could actually eat and enjoy.”

Messages like this are exactly why I love creating vegan and allergy friendly wedding cakes.
